New SEBI Chairperson: Ms Madhabi Puri Buch
Government has approved the appointment of new Chairperson for securities market regulator SEBI. Ms. Madhabi Puri Buch, former Whole Time Member, SEBI shall be next chairperson for a period of three years. Madhabi Puri joined SEBI as a Whole Time Director in April 2017. She has served as CEO, head, non-executive director, Independent director in various organizations. This is the first time that a woman & a person from the private sector has been chosen for a key post with the market regulator. She will replace Ajay Tyagi as the Sebi chief who was a 1984 batch IAS officer and was appointed as the chairman of Sebi on 1 March 2017, for a period of three years. Subsequently, he was given a six-month extension and later in August 2020, his tenure was extended by 18 months.
