The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) with its notification has clarified that spending of CSR funds to set up “health infrastructure and establishment of medical oxygen generation & storage plants” will be treated as an eligible CSR activity, providing a significant boost to corporate India looking to undertake CSR around the Covid-19 pandemic.
This would be permissible as a CSR activity under Schedule VII of the Companies Act, which deals with the promotion of healthcare, including preventive healthcare and disaster management. Companies must take the approval of the competent authority before initiating such expenditures.
